SMSTS Course
The Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) is a five day CITB course that covers areas including CDM regulations, duties and responsibilities. Because safety is an essential element of site management, the SMSTS training course will assist managers and potential managers in developing their knowledge, awareness and understanding to ensure safe methods of work for construction site employees.
Who is it for?
This course is for you if you’re considering, or already have, responsibilities for planning, organising, monitoring, controlling and administering groups of staff e.g. site manager.
Our CITB SMSTS course is delivered as a five-day block and is available in our training venues nationwide.
This SMSTS course is delivered in a physical classroom with a CITB trainer and up to 20 delegates, workbooks will be hard copies to take home with you. SMSTS is one of our most popular CITB courses and we have various dates available to suit your needs.

Our online course is delivered online using Teams. The courses are ideal for busy Site Managers who can’t easily be away from the site for five days of external training.
The remote element eliminates the need to travel to a physical venue to complete the course. To join the online course, delegates have to log in via the link provided through a computer or laptop with a camera, screen, microphone and access to the internet (this cannot be done using a mobile phone).
The course is delivered live by a CITB trainer who covers the same content as the classroom course. Delegates can interact with the trainer and other delegates via webchat or video and will be provided with a downloadable digital copy of the coursebook, and the final exam is completed online.

It covers all relevant legislation affecting safe working in the building, construction and civil engineering industries. It highlights the need for risk assessment in the workplace, the implementation of the necessary control measures and adequate communication to sustain a health and safety culture within the workforce.
At the end of the course you will be able to:
- implement all health, safety, welfare and environmental legislation affecting your daily work
- implement new guidance and industry best practice
- state your duties and responsibilities with regards to health, safety, welfare and the environment
Certification for this course is valid for 5 years. To remain certified in this area, you will need to take a refresher course before the expiry date on your certificate, otherwise the full course will need to be retaken.
