NVQs / SVQs
National and Scottish Vocational qualifications (N/SVQs) refer to work-related qualifications. They are designed to demonstrate knowledge, understanding and work-based performance which is matched to National Occupational Standards (NOS).
These NOS describe the competencies expected in any given job role covering all the mains aspects of an occupation including current best practice, the ability to adapt to future requirements and the knowledge and understanding that underpin competent performance.

CAT Solutions has a proven track record of delivering a wide range of NVQs across England and Wales and SVQs in Scotland. We are accredited to deliver over 50 qualifications at operative, craft, supervisory, management and senior management levels and have successfully delivered over 2000 competency-based qualifications since 2013.
We have an experienced, occupationally competent assessment team who deliver vocational qualifications to companies working on some of the country’s most complex construction projects within the rail, construction, infrastructure, nuclear, utility, tunnelling and rail sectors.
These highly sought-after qualifications are delivered in the workplace with minimal disruption to work and site-based operations. N/SVQs are used to demonstrate competence and on completion will generate the required Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card. CSCS cards are required for individuals to gain access to construction sites and used to demonstrate occupational competence.
Assessment Methodology
Each individual (or candidate) will work closely with their designated assessor who will help them to build a portfolio of evidence. Varying assessment methods will be used throughout the delivery of the qualification in which the candidate can demonstrate their competence. These assessment methods will be:
- Product evidence (building up a portfolio of evidence of what you’ve done at work)
- Observation
- Witness testimony
- Question and answer
- Professional discussions
Evidence from the above assessment methodology is stored and logged within our bespoke individual electronic learner portfolio.
